Different Strokes and All That Jazz

You know the saying "Different strokes for different folks?"

People are so different, and so hard to understand sometimes. I think most misunderstandings happen because we want people to be like us. Sometimes we expect people to behave a certain way because that's how we behave. And some people try to mold 'you' into something looking more like themselves.

It's ironic to me that anyone would try to mold another adult into being more like them. Who is to say who is the better person? It seems to me that it takes a large ego to assume that one person, is inherently better than another.

And yet, still they try. How can we politely say, "I'm fine the way I am!" without hurting the other person's fragile ego?

By remembering, that this is why they act this way. Because their ego is so fragile. Because to them, one must be like them so that they can feel like the world makes sense, and is in it's proper order.

I don't know about you, but I feel bad for people who feel they have to control everyone around them - even other people. Control is an illusion. No matter how much we want to, there will always be something outside of our control, and understanding that, at the heart of it, is a huge step to being a person who is happy with themselves, and is also able to be happy with other people being themselves as well.

It take all kinds of different people to give us what we need in this world. Different strokes and all that jazz... it comes down to appreciation and respect for another person.

Take care,

Rose
